Type 2 Diabetes Just The Facts About Type 2 Diabetes
Diabetes starts inside an organ in your belly called the pancreas. There are cells inside your pancreas that make a special liquid called insulin. Your body needs insulin to tell itself when the sugar in your blood should be used for energy in the rest of your body. When you have diabetes, the pancreas has trouble making the insulin your body needs.
When you have type 2 diabetes, the insulin your pancreas makes does not work well, and it doesn't make enough insulin either. Like with type 1 diabetes, the glucose from the food you eat can't get through the cell walls. Your cells starve for glucose and you feel hungry and tired all the time.*
