While a healthy diet is important to good diabetes control, having diabetes doesn't mean you need special foods or a complicated diet plan. The cornerstones of a good diabetes diet are simple - moderate portions of healthy food and regular mealtimes.

Most people with diabetes will have a meal plan based on carbohydrate counting, because carbs turn into glucose. The recommended number of servings of carbohydrate foods is based on your weight, activity levels, diabetes medications, and goals for your blood glucose levels.

Your dietician or diabetes educator should work with you to determine your individual carbohydrate goals and make a personalized plan. Use the tips and information in this section to help you manage your plan. From nutrition guides to recipes, you’ll have everything you need to feel confident in your food choices—and that’s a simple win.
